Privacy policy
Effective October 31, 2026. ANI Alerts is run by JD Media, LLC ("we"). This policy says what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and your rights. The short version: we collect your email and ZIP code to send the alerts you chose. We don't sell or share them, and we don't track you. Some emails may carry a labeled sponsor message; sponsors never get your information.
What we collect
- Your email address and ZIP code, which you give us.
- Information we work out from your ZIP: its county, the approximate center point of the ZIP area, and the nearest NOAA tide station. We use these only to decide which alerts are near you. We never ask for or store your street address or precise location.
- Your choices: the feeds you picked, how often, and any pause.
- Consent records: when you signed up, confirmed, changed settings or unsubscribed; the version of the sign-up wording you saw; and a scrambled (one-way hashed) form of the internet address you used. We keep these to show that you asked for the emails.
- A send log: which emails we sent you and when.
- Suggestions you send through the suggestion box: the text, and an email or ZIP only if you choose to add them.
We don't collect sensitive personal information (such as government ID numbers, financial accounts, health, or precise geolocation), and we ask you not to put any in a suggestion.
What we don't do
- No cookies, no analytics, no third-party scripts or fonts on this site.
- Sponsors and ads: emails and pages may include sponsor messages or ads. They are labeled, they are chosen by topic, not by who you are, and we don't give sponsors your email, ZIP or any other personal information.
- No tracking pixels or tracked links in our emails. We don't know whether you open an email or click a link; links go straight to the source.
- We don't sell your personal information, share it with advertisers, or use it for targeted advertising or profiling.
- We don't put your email or ZIP into AI models. Alerts are written from public data; your information is used only to decide who receives which alert.
Paid plans
If we offer paid features, the payment company we use (for example Stripe or Patreon) collects your payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive only what we need to run your plan: your name, email, plan, and payment status. We never see or store full card numbers.
How we use it
To send the alerts and roundups you asked for; to work out what is near you; to honor unsubscribes and pauses; to keep a record of consent; to prevent abuse (for example, rate limits on the sign-up form); and to read your suggestions and, if you asked, reply.
Who else handles it
Only service providers that help us run the service, bound to use it only for that purpose: our email delivery provider (which receives your address and the content of each email so it can deliver it) and our network provider (which carries web traffic to our site and processes internet addresses to do so). The service itself runs on our own computer in the United States. We disclose information to authorities only when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Sign-ups that are never confirmed: deleted after 7 days.
- After you unsubscribe: your email, ZIP and choices are deleted within 30 days. We keep a one-way hashed code of your address on a do-not-email list, so we never email you by mistake.
- Consent records: 4 years, then deleted.
- Send log: 13 months. Suggestions: 2 years.
Your choices and requests
Wherever you live, you can:
- Change or stop your emails at any time with the links in every message: change feeds or ZIP, pause for a week, or unsubscribe in one click.
- Ask to see the personal information we have about you, and we'll send you a copy.
- Ask us to correct or delete it.
To ask, email [email protected] from the address you subscribed with, so we know the request is yours. We'll answer within 45 days. Using these choices never changes how we treat you. We don't sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of, but we honor browser Global Privacy Control signals anyway.
Do Not Track
We don't track people across websites or over time, so we treat every visitor as if Do Not Track is on.
Children
ANI Alerts is not for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child signed up, email [email protected] and we'll delete it.
Where we operate
ANI Alerts is for people in the United States and its territories, and accepts U.S. ZIP codes only. Information is stored in the United States.
Security
Access is limited to the operator. Internet addresses and do-not-email entries are stored only as one-way hashes, and credentials are kept in an encrypted vault. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy we will post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is material, we will email subscribers before it takes effect.
